OpenMage LTS Version Upgrade - Zero Regressions
Challenge
A multi-store production shop with Varnish and Redis was running an outdated OpenMage LTS release with known security vulnerabilities and several backend bugs affecting customer account management, newsletter templates, and price rule processing. The multi-store, Varnish-cached setup made a zero-downtime upgrade non-trivial.
What Was Built
Dependency and patch compatibility analysis against the current composer lockfile. Upgrade applied on a staging clone; incompatible community patches identified and rewritten. Full QA checklist on staging: homepage, category listing, product detail, cart, checkout through to order review, customer account, admin panel. Varnish cache warmed and behaviour verified post-upgrade. Live deployment during low-traffic window; smoke tests across all active storeviews and languages immediately after. 48-hour post-deployment monitoring period.
Outcome
Platform running current OpenMage LTS with improved security hardening, PHP 8.2 compatibility improvements, and a set of backend bug fixes. No user-facing regressions in staging or after go-live.
